Adani Power (APL) has successfully acquired Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) for ₹4,000 crore under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), with the deal becoming effective from July 7. This strategic move makes VIPL a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power and is expected to influence investor sentiment and market dynamics. For traders focusing on stock market strategy and intraday trading, such acquisitions can offer valuable insights into sectoral trends and short-term opportunities.

About VIPL

Located in Butibori, Nagpur district, VIPL operates a 2x300 MW domestic coal-based power plant and was undergoing resolution through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).

The Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved Adani’s resolution plan on 18 June, with implementation completed on 7 July 2025. “The acquisition of VIPL strengthens our footprint in Maharashtra and adds valuable base-load capacity,” Adani Power said in a statement.

Following this transaction, Adani Power’s total operational generation capacity has increased to 18,150 MW. The company is targeting 30,670 MW capacity by FY 2029–30, in line with its long-term growth strategy across thermal, renewable, and hybrid segments.
