(APL) has successfully acquired Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) for ₹4,000
crore under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), with the deal becoming
effective from July 7. This strategic move makes VIPL a wholly owned subsidiary
of Adani Power and is expected to influence investor sentiment and market

Located in Butibori, Nagpur district, VIPL
operates a 2x300 MW domestic coal-based power plant and was undergoing resolution
through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).
The Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law
Tribunal (NCLT) approved Adani’s resolution plan on 18 June, with
implementation completed on 7 July 2025. “The acquisition of VIPL strengthens
our footprint in Maharashtra and adds valuable base-load capacity,” Adani Power
said in a statement.
Following this transaction, Adani Power’s
total operational generation capacity has increased to 18,150 MW. The company
is targeting 30,670 MW capacity by FY 2029–30, in line with its long-term
growth strategy across thermal, renewable, and hybrid segments.
